Re: Approximate pi with scilab

Yeah, I found all sorts of gems in www.triusinc.com/techs. Apparently, one of the TRIUS partners had spent a lot of time in technical fields/industries and has been a fairly prolific writer of common sense technical papers. I recommend that people download and read some of the papers.

Re: Approximate pi with scilab

What do people think is a good way to calculate an approximation of pi with scilab? I don't necessarily need the code, I can come up with that. I just need some ideas of what are good ways to approximate it. Not sure is this is what you are looking for, but I found another gem in www.triusinc.com/t...

Re: Scilab exponential interpolation

Pleonat, that's why I qualified my response. Also, the paper I quoted very clearly identifies under what conditions the method would be applicable. Doc: Exp_Interpolations_Karahalios.pdf Link: ( http://triusinc.com/techs/Exp_Interpolations_Karahalios.pdf ) In any case, I do agree with your main prem...

Re: Benford's Law - this is great

Well, I don't know how helpful it is, but I found another short paper on this site's "techs" section that deals with this subject.

http://triusinc.com/techs/QuickBenford_Karahalios.pdf

It's fairly simple and doesn't go deep into math, but it may provide some additional insight.

Re: Scilab exponential interpolation

Not sure if this helps, but I found this folder with a whole bunch of docs, on this board and there is a document there about exponential interpolations Doc: Exp_Interpolations_Karahalios.pdf Link: ( http://triusinc.com/techs/Exp_Interpolations_Karahalios.pdf ) Take a look and see if it's what you n...

Re: Do Better Scrum

Scotty, good tips document. I would recommend that one first becomes familiar with the concept of scrum, gets comfortable with it and then reads this document. The tips presented in it would then make a lot more sense and would be a lot more useful.

Re: Kanbam-vs-Scrum

I don't think that it's one -vs- the other. On many projects, they are used together, i.e., Scrumban,

Re: Software development, which platform?

Some interesting threads in these forums :-) Chris, putting aside the terminology, at this point, I think the additional information you provided helps, although you may need to fine tune your goals a bit more, before you find the right solution. Developing web apps itself can have a slightly differ...

Re: Software development, which platform?

I don't think you'll find a generic answer tho that question. First because most modern platforms are pretty powerful and you can do most things you need with most of them and second because when it really depends on what the job at hand it. Rule of thumb is, pick the platform you are most knowledge...

Re: PM, BA, Architect, etc. - What are the differences?

You hit the nail on the head :-) Too many titles, too many acronyms, confusing roles and responsibilities,.. Is it any wonder most software projects fail nowadays? :-( I have to star with the disclaimer that I am no expert, but I can give you what I think some of these roles are and how they are dif...

Re: Types of Agile?

Aaron, I think you may have forgotten the most important one, "Unbranded Agile" which is what many Project teams use, i.e., adaptations of one or more Agile processes to fit their specific needs and requirements. By its own definition, Agile allows one to adopt it to the current situation,...

Re: Waterfall or Scrum? And why?

The knee-jerk answer to that would be NOT waterfall, but I personally tend to think that there is never a clear-cut answer. One needs to consider each software development project individually and see what is best. Generally speaking, Scrum or some other Agile process is better suited for developing...
