I know that someone posted some report about low radiation not being too harmful, but there are other studies that concluded otherwise. Take a look at this one.

The best thing would be to NOT produce any more spent fuel or additional rad waste! How would you like it if they decided to put such a facility in your state, may be 20 miles or so from *your* home? Great idea. Why don't we just give up electricity, give up automobiles, forget about fire, etc. and...
