Re: Approval of Reactor Design Clears Path for New Plants
Not so sure, Hellen22 That might have been the case a year or so ago, but since the accident at Fukushima, I sense that many supporters of the nuclear industry are having second thoughts. Look at what happened in FL today, where the same lawmaker that was pushing for nuclear, now introduces a bill t...

Re: Are SMRs the way of the future?
I think SMRs are definitely the way of the future. Sure, the economies of scale may not come into play, but the flexibility of building smaller units (as needed) closer to major distribution network nodes, more than makes up for any economic disadvantage. In addition to that, they are much easier to...

Re: Any involvement with Fukushima?
Actually, I don't think anything is going critical in those vessels. Of course nobody can say for sure, until they somehow take a look, but I believe the radioisotopes being reported are simply products of spontaneous fission, and not of some mass going critical. I Don't have any details as to the m...

Re: Any involvement with Fukushima?
Harrison, I don't know if TRIUS is involved and I am NOT involved in any official capacity, but I have been following it very closely, since the day it occurred. And, I don't know if you had any questions about it, or if I could answer them, but if you post them here, I'd be willing to give it a sho...

Re: Any shielding software?
I don't know that they have any such program or not, but why can't you get one from RSIC or some other government lab? I believe you can get them for free and they range in complexity and capabilities from the very simple to the real sophisticated. For example, since you are looking for gamma trans...

Re: Alternative/Green Energy
I know what it means, I was being coy because a lot of people and companies use the term lightly, simply to make themselves sound important and "cool". I guess the levity was lost in the translation :-( I understand, Johannes. However, I still haven't gotten an answer to my original quest...

Re: What development language?
I don't think one has to spend the tons of money that MATLABS wants. Why? 99% of what it can do can be done by scilab which was developed in France and it is TOTALLY free. Download a copy and give it a try, you'll be surprised. And, this also is very appropriate, i.e., having this conversation in t...

Re: What development language?
@BillRotando: I don't think Algol is dead, but I guess it all depends on what you call dead. It definitely is not a language that is predominantly used, but I am sure there are people using it. For a complete list of languages and some info as to their status, you may take a quick look at the link I...

Re: What development language?
I know that in the old days, engineers used to use Fortran and Basic, 99% of the time, specially for developing complicated scientific program (I think Cobol was for business, but I am not sure). In any case, what is the preferred language nowdays? As I recall, 10+ years ago, everyone was raving ab...

Re: Any shielding software?
I guess you are right. I never dealt with that part of the process. When we needed a code, I just filled out the paperwork and gave it to our IT department, and then the code appeared, like magic ;-) Seriously, though, because I was never involved in the process, I always thought that since all thes...

Re: Energy Technology
Since I was searching on line, I got carried away... :-) I found a couple of other links to older nuclear work they have done. I'm sure there is more, but I've spent enough time on this. Here are the additional links: Proceedings of the CSNI Specialist Meeting on Nuclear Aerosols in Reactor Safety K...
