Chernobyl roof caves from snow!
So the strong, secure, state of the art sarcophagus that was supposed to protect us from the totally melted core at chernobyl is not all that secure, eh? I guess its roof collapsed from the weight of the snow. But wait, authorities said there is no need to worry, there is no radiation leaking. But w...

Explaining the nuclear units ?
I read and hear all these units thrown around and though I've tried to read up on them, I still get confused. In particular I keep hearing about sieverts and beqerels, and once in a while I read about greys. (In my readings, I also saw that they used to use rems, but I don't care about those, since ...

Nuclear Industry's attitude - Small Reactors
Caught a program on NPR today, discussing N-energy's effort to develop and market these new, small cheap reactors. The spokesperson for the company emphasized that their goal is to build not tens, but thousands of these small reactors and deploy them both here and in other development countries that...

Re: IAEA-The Radiological Accident in Gilan
I just downloaded and read the report on the gilan accident. I am even more worried about the nuclear option than before. I looked at the pictures at the end of the report and I couldn't believe the damage a small 2 mm ?? piece of radioactive material could do in just 1.5 hours of exposure! Can you ...

Re: New, small, self-contained nuclear plants
The big question is (and always will be), how much safer, if any, these systems are compared to (a) current nukes, (b) the new AP1000 designs and (c) other (larger) proposed SMRs.
And, with today's natural gas prices being so low and reserves being so high, will it make sense financially?
