Re: Low Radiation May Not Be as Harmful
That's not news to most of us in the field. I think that it's just getting to the point where new scientific data may prove that once and for all. There is a lot of work in the literature - as far as back in the 50's, suggesting that not only is the response not linear, but at low levels radiation m...

Re: More Fukushima Reports...
What did you expect? Look at the author's name, Joe Mangano. If you do a google search you'll find lots of articles that he has authored where the nuclear power industry is to blame for all sorts of things. I bet that if the weather drastically changed, tomorrow, he'll publish an article about the ...

Re: SCILAB 5.3 User Manual, Excellent
Of course, still alpha so not fit for production work, but it may be worth taking a look. Lots of interesting improvement, esp. the new XML stuff, but definitely not ready for prime time :-) Dozens of reported bugs have been fixed (http://www.scilab.org/content/download/2563/25966/file/changes5.4.0...

Re: Any shielding software?
I just went through the RSIC sign-up process and saw that one needs to pay ~ $1,000 for each code they are interested in. That's a lot of money. And to think that I (we) have already paid for them, through all the taxes we pay RSIC is a Federal group, paid by our Federal taxes!

Re: SCILAB 5.3.3
For those who are interested in uploading PDFs, I received this from the moderator, The PDF extension is rejected, by default, because PDFs are files that are sometimes used by rogue users to attack systems. Since this is a fairly controlled board, it was allowed and you should now be able to upload...

Re: SCILAB 5.3.3
@Evan, I downloaded the PDF for MATLAB users, as well, from the linked site, and I tried to upload it to this section to make it easier for the users, but was denied. I have sent a private message to the moderator to see if it can be taken care of. Will post here, when I get a reply.

Re: SCILAB 5.3.3
Well, since the moderator didn't think a new forum was a good idea :-) I hope starting a new thread about this is O.K. I just got the latest Windows build of SCILAB 5.3.3 I know that it will take me years to learn how to use most of its features (not all of them), but I strongly recommend everyone ...

Re: Alternative/Green Energy
Fedya, KimChin are you guys serious? So, what about the thousands of tons of radioactive material that is the byproduct of the process? How do you deal with it without "impacting" the environment? I am not a nuclear option opponent, but I mean come on, we have to call things by their name!

Re: What development language?
Yeah, I can see what you are saying, but right now you have this under "General Topics of Interest" and then in a sub "Technology". I mean, it's not very visible and easy to find by users. It's your board and at the end of the day you'll do what you want, I was just saying that i...

Re: What development language?
Very interesting thread. You know, there appears to be a lot of interest in the subject (development languages and now matlab/scilab,...) You may want to ask the moderator to set up a special area for you on this board, like a dedicated forum. Doesn't that make sense?

Re: Alternative/Green Energy
I know what it means, I was being coy because a lot of people and companies use the term lightly, simply to make themselves sound important and "cool". I guess the levity was lost in the translation :-( I understand, Johannes. However, I still haven't gotten an answer to my original quest...

Re: Alternative/Green Energy
Well, I don't know how others use it, but to me it has a very specific connotation. It means "a way to generate energy by minimally impacting the environment".
Hope this helps.

Re: Any shielding software?
I could be wrong, but I don;t think that RSIC codes are free (they may have been many years ago), unless you are another "approved" government agency. They usually charge you based on the percent of your work being funded by specific government agencies. I think a few thousand dollars is u...

Alternative/Green Energy
Does TRIUS do any work with alternative/green energy technologies? Solar, bio, anything like that?
