Germany Restarts Reactors...

I read this article and sort of chuckled, because it demonstrated what happens when decision are made in the vacuum, without proper consideration of all related factors. The "political" decision to abandon all nuclear power and shut down all reactors was made based on political reasons and not based on the potential energy needs of the country. So what happened now? Reactors all of a sudden became safer, so it was OK to restart them to get them out of the energy bind? It just exemplifies the need for decisions to be made on technical merit and not on "What politically sounds good today".

Yeah, it's really interesting how governments can make all these grandiose decisions and announce how they will do this or that until the %$#$ hits the fan and the quickly change their decisions. I love it :-) It would be interesting to find out if this was just a temporary thing, or if the German government decided to reneg on their decision and not shut down the nukes.

Does anyone have any additional information on this?
