Scilab 5.4.0

Post by Evan Tromblay »

Anyone here working with the scilab 5.4.0 beta? I've installed it and played with it a bit, but I haven't made up my mind yet, if I like it better than 5.3.3 or not. There were some nuisances in 5.3.3 that have been corrected, but I liked the old interface :-(

I'll wait till the distribution version is available. I have run into all sorts of problems with beta versions of programs ;)

Well, the distribution version 5.4.0 *is* now available.

I downloaded and installed it, although I haven't played with it yet. It's promising to be much better than the previous version. We'll see.

I've been using it for a while. It's actually a very powerful package and a significant upgrade from the 5.3 version.

I got the distribution version and it is a real improvement in most respects. However, it does appear to be a bit slower. I haven't done any actual times comparisons, but that's my perception. Anyone else feels the same?

The new version of Scilab is awesome! I just wish that I was more familiar with it. Unfortunately, it's not something I use all the time, so every time I have to use it I have to re-learn lots of things. It comes back easy, but it still takes some effort.
