Approval of Reactor Design Clears Path for New Plants

Post by Helen22 »

I almost missed this article, in the excitement of the holidays, last week. A piece of good news for the nuclear industry.

The AP1000 design was unanimously approved by the NRC.

Not so sure, Hellen22

That might have been the case a year or so ago, but since the accident at Fukushima, I sense that many supporters of the nuclear industry are having second thoughts. Look at what happened in FL today, where the same lawmaker that was pushing for nuclear, now introduces a bill to bury it

I hope you are right, because I believe nuclear power is a necessary component of our short term (100 - years ?) energy problem, but the TMIs, Chernobyls and Fukushimas are making it really tough to sell the option and overcome the fear the general public and politician have of the word "Nuclear".

What can I say...
